FAQ
a few more things to know.
Everything you need to know before you begin a home practice with Poetry in Motion.
What is the Poetry in Motion home practice?
Poetry in Motion home practice is a growing movement library designed to help you shift your state and cultivate longevity and joy. Whether you have 5 or 30 minutes, tune into a single practice or stack a few together — from the comfort of your home, hotel, cabin or wherever you happen to be. The library draws from Trilby’s lifetime of movement and 9 years of teaching across a variety of modalities.
Where should I start?
You can browse the featured videos, or select a category based on how you’re feeling, how much time you have and what your body is craving.
How often should I practice?
This library is meant to complement the existing routine that you know and love. You could absolutely practice daily, but know that even a 5-10 minute practice a few times a week can be meaningful and supportive.
Do I need any equipment?
We’ll occasionally incorporate a light to medium dumbbell, loop band, squish ball, blocks, a foam roller or a pillow, but none of these are required for you to have a fulfilling practice. A mat or blanket can be nice to have to provide comfort.
What level are the classes?
All classes are open level and invite layering, meaning you can keep a movement pattern simple or increase the challenge by adding variations. More complexity isn’t necessarily better — choose the version that feels best in your body that day.
How does music work?
All aliven and tend & replenish practices will have an optional playlist to play alongside your practice, which is encouraged for a music-driven experience. If you’re practicing from your phone, you’ll want to have another device available to play the accompanying Spotify playlist – this could be via a laptop, iPad, or home speaker like Sonos. If you’re tuning in from a laptop, you can open a second tab in your web browser, or for the best experience, have the Spotify desktop app downloaded. Regardless of device, I will offer a “3-2-1, play” countdown at the start of class so we can sync up our music! I recommend adjusting your Spotify volume to 30%.
Do I need Spotify?
Yes, but you only need a free account – you do not need to have a Spotify premium account to listen to the playlist.
Can I do the practices without music?
Absolutely! I guide you along the whole journey, so you’re welcome to skip the music and practice exclusively with my voice and cues.
Can I practice while pregnant or postpartum?
All classes offer layers that can make many practices pre/postnatal friendly. I strongly advise consulting a medical professional to make sure you are cleared for movement, and always listen to your body and move at your discretion.
How do I access my membership?
You can login on the homepage of Poetry in Motion, or bookmark the library page and login from there. Each time you login you will receive a one-time passcode to your e-mail, which you can access, input into the passcode field and complete your login.
How often will new practices be added?
You can expect fresh practices added regularly – I recommend subscribing to my Substack, Poetry in Motion, to receive a monthly update on new classes added.
