welcome to Poetry in Motion home practice
Hello! This is an extension of my IRL teaching and the inner world I share through my Substack, Poetry in Motion. Perhaps we’ve connected in person or through my writing. Either way, I’m happy you’ve landed here. Here’s a little more about me, how I teach, and what inspired this offering.
I’ve spent a lifetime taking classes, exploring different modalities, and following my curiosity about how and why we move. That evolution from student to teacher continues to shape how I develop and teach classes today.
My teaching is creative, nurturing, intentional, music-driven and layered, with clear cues and an emphasis on quality of movement. I’m interested in that sweet spot between effort and grace — working hard, softening, feeling motivated and moved by music, and ultimately finding ways to keep moving that we actually enjoy and look forward to.
I currently teach full-time in Vancouver, BC, across restorative movement, mat and reformer Pilates, strength training and rhythm-based, dance-inspired movement. After years of teaching thousands of people, what I’ve come to trust is that our bodies really enjoy and thrive with variety. There isn’t one perfect way to move. I think a little strength, mobility, stability, recovery, stillness and play makes for a pretty wonderful movement practice — and one that can evolve with us over our lifetime.
Music is woven into everything I teach. My playlists are crafted with the same care as my sequencing: dynamic, intentional, and balancing familiarity and nostalgia with new music that lights me up. Discovering an album or artist that moves me — and finding a way to bring that feeling into practice — is one of my favourite aspects of teaching.
The Poetry in Motion home practices are an extension of all of this, made to fit into the life you already have. Tend and replenish after strength training, warm up for a run with something short, sweet and engaging, take five minutes to breathe, get quiet and shift your state, or bounce, shake and groove when what you need is a little more energy and play.
My hope is that you leave practice feeling a little more present, connected, oxygenated and nourished than when you arrived. Every practice cultivates a pause to notice this shift, so that we can consciously take it into the rest of our day.
You can also find me writing and sharing regularly on my Substack, Poetry in Motion, and on Instagram at @trilby_.
